I searched high and low for a basic, close reading test that thesis would simply show me whether students did their outside-of-class reading of fahrenheit 451, and I found that none existed that met my needs (detailed easy to grade). I was not striving for higher order thinking. Just a basic, Accelerated-reader-type quiz that would demonstrate completion of the assigned reading. The higher order thinking questions come out after my students have completed the reading-through Socratic Seminar. Thus, this is basic, but it serves a specific purpose of student accountability. I've created three 15-question, multiple-choice tests (Parts i, ii, iii) to serve this purpose. To make a teacher's job easier, i've also included an answer key. Part i is a free product so you can gauge whether this will work for you. I have already tested these in my own classroom (9th graders) and found the tests to be valid and an accurate assessment of whether students read the novel.
